Team role

District Lead of Volunteer Experience

A role in the Volunteer Experience Team.

Purpose of the role

The District Lead of Volunteer Experience leads the Volunteer Experience Team and is part of the District Leadership Team, reporting to the District Lead Volunteer.

They lead the District’s approach to supporting Section volunteers to deliver a great programme for young people, working with the Squirrel, Beaver, Cub and Scout Volunteer Experience Leads to understand what our volunteers need and make sure they can access the right support.

The role helps create a connected community of Section volunteers across the District, where ideas and experience are shared, common challenges are addressed together, and volunteers have a strong voice in shaping the support they receive.

The Volunteer Experience Team works closely with the District Events and Activities Teams, which provide District-wide events, adventurous activities and specialist activity support.

Responsibilities

The District Lead of Volunteer Experience will:

  • Lead and support the Squirrel, Beaver, Cub and Scout Volunteer Experience Leads, helping them build strong and supportive communities within their Sections.
  • Bring the Volunteer Experience Team together regularly to share what volunteers are telling us, identify common themes and coordinate support across Sections.
  • Help Section volunteers across the District access the programme resources, knowledge, connections and support they need to deliver great experiences for young people.
  • Identify common challenges and opportunities across Sections and work with the wider District Leadership Team to turn these into practical support and improvements.
  • Encourage collaboration and the sharing of ideas, resources, skills and good practice between Sections and Groups across the District.
  • Work closely with the District Events and Activities Teams, ensuring the needs and ideas of Section volunteers help shape the opportunities and support provided across the District.
  • Represent the needs and experiences of Section volunteers within the District Leadership Team and help ensure they have a strong voice in District planning and decision-making.

What success looks like

Section volunteers across the District feel connected, supported and able to access the ideas, resources and experience they need to deliver great programmes for young people.

The Squirrel, Beaver, Cub and Scout Volunteer Experience Leads form an active and effective team, with strong relationships with volunteers in their Sections and a good understanding of what those volunteers need.

Common challenges are identified and acted upon, rather than individual Sections having to solve the same problems independently, and good ideas and experience are shared across the District.

The Volunteer Experience, Events and Activities Teams work together effectively, with clear roles and good communication between them, giving Section volunteers access to a joined-up range of programme support and opportunities.

Section volunteers have a meaningful voice within the District, and their experiences and ideas help shape the support the District provides.
