Volunteer Experience Team

Meet the teams and roles that support this area of district Scouting.

About the team

The Volunteer Experience Team helps volunteers in Squirrel, Beaver, Cub and Scout Sections across the District deliver great programmes and experiences for young people.

The team brings Section volunteers together, helps them share ideas, resources and experience, and makes it easier to access support from across the District. It provides a link between volunteers delivering Scouting every week and the wider District team, helping us understand what is working well, where volunteers need support and where we can make things easier.

Most importantly, the team helps create a community where volunteers can learn from and support each other rather than every Section having to solve the same challenges on its own.

What the team does

  • Builds strong, supportive networks between Squirrel, Beaver, Cub and Scout volunteers across the District.
  • Brings Section volunteers together through regular District Section Leader Meetings to share ideas, discuss challenges and help shape District support.
  • Helps volunteers share programme ideas, resources, skills, experience and good practice across Groups and Sections.
  • Connects volunteers with the people, knowledge and resources that can help them deliver a great programme.
  • Listens to Section volunteers and identifies common needs, challenges and opportunities where the District can provide useful support.
  • Encourages collaboration between Sections and Groups where working together can make things easier or create better opportunities for young people.

Working with other District teams

The Volunteer Experience Team is one part of how the District supports great programmes. It works closely with our Events and Activities Teams, with each team having a different focus.

Volunteer Experience supports and connects the volunteers who deliver programmes within their Sections.

Events brings Sections together through District-wide events and experiences for young people.

Activities helps volunteers access adventurous activities, specialist skills, expertise and activity support.

The teams work together so that ideas and needs raised by Section volunteers can be turned into useful support, activities and opportunities across the District.

Who’s in the team?

What success looks like

Volunteers across the District feel part of a wider Scouting community. They know volunteers outside their own Group, have somewhere to share ideas and ask questions, and know how to access support when they need it.

Good ideas and experience travel between Sections, common challenges are tackled together, and the District understands what its volunteers need to help them deliver brilliant Scouting for young people.
